Is an electronic signature like this legally valid?

In the United States, the ESIGN Act (2000) and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (adopted by 49 states) say a signature can't be denied legal effect just because it's electronic — a drawn or typed signature on a PDF counts when both sides agree to do business electronically. The EU's eIDAS regulation treats it as a "simple electronic signature", which is admissible as evidence.

Some documents need more: wills, certain real-estate and court filings, or anything that requires a notary or a certificate-based digital signature (the cryptographic kind that shows a blue "signed by" banner in Adobe). This tool makes a visual signature, not a certificate signature. When in doubt, ask the person who sent you the document what they accept.

Tips for a signature that looks right

  • Drawing: sign larger than you need and slowly — it's scaled down, which hides wobbles. A stylus or finger on a phone feels most natural.
  • Uploading: sign on white paper with a dark pen, take a photo in good light, and keep Remove white background on so only the ink lands on the page.
  • Blue ink makes it obvious which copy is the signed original when printed.
  • Your signature is flattened into the page, so it can't be dragged off or copied out as a separate object by the recipient.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens with JavaScript inside your browser tab — the file is never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

Can I sign on my phone?

Yes. Draw with your finger in the signature box, then tap the page to place it. Pages scale to your screen; pinch-zoom works for fine positioning.

Is my signature saved anywhere?

It stays in memory only while this tab is open. Reload the page and it's gone — nothing is stored on a server or in your browser.

Can several people sign the same PDF?

Yes — each person opens the latest signed copy, adds their signature and saves again. Earlier signatures are already part of the page.

Will the signature be selectable or removable?

No. It's drawn into the page content (flattened) as an image, the same way a scanned signed page would look.
